Duyong Old City: Introduction
Located in Duyong Island, Kuala Terengganu, is one of the most valuable architectural heritage in Terengganu. Built in 1919 and completed in 1920 by Dato' Biji Sura (Nik Mohamad bin Hitam) is the great-grandson of Tok Sheikh Duyong (mother's side), this place has become a center for religious learning and reciting the Quran for local residents. Located just 7 km from the city center Kuala Terengganu, this area is rich in cultural heritage and unique architecture. This city is also known as Kota Tok Hakim, a unique example of Malay architecture that resembles the Malay King's Small Palace, but with a touch of foreign architecture in the decoration of the columns and stone walls that show elements Corinthian or Egypt.
