Payang Walk & Legacy rickshaw

“2 New Attractions”

Terengganu, a state rich in cultural heritage and natural beauty, now introduces new attraction to empower Terengganu's tourism sector on the mainland and its islands. Payang Walk takes its name from Kedai Payang Market which is famous, and it is a pedestrian area filled with shops, food stalls, and street vendors. The site is divided into areas selling traditional food and local products as well as cultural and artistic performances.

Beca Warisan as a symbol of Terengganu tradition

One of the main attractions in this area is Heritage rickshaw, or better known as “Heritage Rickshaw". This rickshaw attracts visitors from home and abroad. Beca Warisan is not only a traditional means of transport but also a symbol of the state's culture and heritage. Beca Warisan Terengganu is famous for its unique design and attractive decorations.

  • Location: Based around Pasar Besar Kedai Payang, Kuala Terengganu.
  • Concept: Payang Walk is an area that allows 100 traders to operate every Friday. Here, visitors can enjoy traditional food, local products, as well as art and cultural performances.
  • Purpose: Increase merchant income and provide a unique experience to visitors.
  • Appearance: 16 heritage rickshaws have been renovated with the help of RM240,000. This rickshaw now has solar panels.
  • Route: Visitors will be invited around Kedai Payang Market and Chinese village in a three kilometer long route. They can enjoy beautiful scenery and appreciate the uniqueness of interesting places nearby.
  • Inspiration: The concept of this heritage rickshaw is taken from the rickshaw operation experience in Melaka.

Relaxing Atmosphere At Night

The area which was previously quite quiet at night has now changed 360 degrees and has become the focus of many people since the existence of Payang Walk. Operating from 4pm to 12 midnight, this crowd-pleasing area is a one-stop shop offering a variety of traditional Terengganu food that has been modernized to suit current tastes along with elements of Terengganu's culture and heritage.

In addition, there are local cultural and artistic performances featured in this area, including rodat, wayang kulit and dikir barat. With the Payang Walk and Beca Warisan, Terengganu is increasingly attracting and empowering the tourism sector. Let's enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of this state together!
